gaps

i guess everyone has gaps in their lives. everyone's just striving to outdo each other so that they feel their sense of worth in their community. it's pretty coincidental that this theme of dissatisfaction with our present status keeps coming into play today, firstly at the yep presentation that tk and i went for, and secondly during cell. tk and i went to the library to mug after lunch together, and we were pretty entertained by a group of j1s from choir practising their vocals. was pretty tired, somehow homework seems to tire our brains out easily, so we decided to head to the squash courts to train a bit before going for the yep talk. marianne chong joined us for the discussion session after the yep presentation, and brought up some thought-provoking points. why is it that students are more generous with their time and themselves during yep trips when dealing with the locals there than when they're back home in singapore with underprivelleged kids? some people offered that they had less distractions in the foreign country and were prepared to set aside time to help out, whereas locally, they're too caught up with never-ending tutorials and assignments, coupled with cca commitments etc, to be able to give their time to others. then what triggers this rat race of finishing work so that acing the exams wont be an issue, and that they'll earn scholarships and get into good universities overseas and receive good job opportunities in time to come? there's no one solution to deal with this kind of mindset, and it's really up to the individual on what he or she believes in, on what he or she prioritises in life. the paper chase is like a rat chasing its tail, there's no end to it cos people are never satisfied with what they have! okies, i think i'm going to sound preach-y if i dont put an end to this. and for cell, we kinda shared about stuff along this theme as well. and it's amazing to learn that my fellow cellmates who are much younger than me have so much more experience than me, and are more grounded in the Word. actually it's not surprising that they are more grounded in the word, but more because of the experience they shared and what they stood for. they're just simply admirable. :) let's walk along with christ, and keep up with his footsteps.

there's training tml, and i'm tired now. need to rest, cos the day will be long.
