-squash report-
zainal was at the courts when i stepped in. ruifen and tk were training already. at that time, i really thought that was all of the squash team for today's training. but sabu came along, after months of absence, and cat joined us after coach training cos she overslept. phew! there's a lot to work on. sabu's pretty good still, ruifen's pretty much there, and all of us have to work on our stamina.i tell you, zainal's such an inspiration. he was in some soccer team back in his younger years, and he crossed path with squash while working at the police academy. and my, it took him 18 months to pick the sport and play it well to be crowned singapore's no 1 then, and even toured malaysia to win greater. but he's quite naggy at times, i guess age does that to you. it's been a real honour working with him this year, and the next as well.
the council people [uncle sue and 04s08-er richard] came down at 1130 to do a video on us for seniors' farewell dinner. it was sure difficult convincing tk to be in the video. and in the end, she wasn't! so it was cat, me, and the guys' team. did a beautiful rendition of "we wish you a seniors' farewell...", all in two takes. uncle sue had to help us with our swaying cos we weren't exactly gifted in coordination, at least in the respect of music. both of them were cool about it, even though we didn't exactly take the shortest time to get things done. and the poor dv guy, who helped us out with the filming -- tk and i actually wanted to take his job so that we don't have screen time. alas, our plan was foiled! hope the squash seniors enjoy our very own mtv.
was looking on at the guys' training. 8 rounds minimum, while some of the girls are not reaching 4. they made do even with one court when we crash their training [of course, not delibrately], while we hardly fully-utilise the courts when all was ours. they're increasing training to 4 times; we are still stuck at three. attendance is good for them; we barely scrape the passing grade. there's a lot of comparison made in one day. okies, shall relate you all to the story that zaneta shared during cell last night:
there's this black dog who saw a white rabbit, and decided to chase it. the white rabbit was miles ahead, but the black dog had its eyes on it, and continued chasing. along the way, every dog from a terrier to a spaniel to a shepherd to a hound to a poodle joined in the dog [rat] race. and there was no telling when all these would end. slowly, each terrier, each spaniel, each shepherd, each hound, each poodle fell away from the chase. but the black dog persevered on. finally, the white rabbit succumbed to the black dog. guess the moral of the story! keep your eyes fixed on where you're heading, and you'll get there somehow. see, all the other dogs did not know what they're chasing after, only the black dog did. and he gets the white rabbit in the end.
maybe the girls' team is just chasing a brown rabbit instead! that's all folks!
